Studio KASCHKASCH and Sher Maker reveal how harmony with nature and sustainability influence their innovative design approach, shaping the future of modern living.

Crystal Home, Thailand’s leading distributor of luxury bathroom products, hosted a design talk in collaboration with Villeroy & Boch and art4d. The event featured the founders of KASCHKASCH, the German design studio behind the Antao collection, and Chiang Mai-based architect Sher Maker, designer of the Aesop Signature Store in Thonglor. Together, they explored the theme ‘In Touch with Nature: Crafting Sustainable Design’.

Mrs Suthipa Svasti-Xuto, Director of Crystal Home, highlighted the growing trend of eco-conscious living and the incorporation of nature into home design. This shift has given rise to sustainable design practices, where homes are designed to blend harmoniously with their natural surroundings, creating a positive and uplifting living environment. Moreover, wellness has become a key consideration in interior spaces like bathrooms. From creating ‘healthy interiors’ using non-toxic materials to optimising colour, light, and spatial proportion to enhance well-being, these practices foster emotional value and happiness in everyday life.

At the event, Sher Maker and KASCHKASCH discussed how reconnecting with nature is central to sustainable design. Patcharada Inplang from Sher Maker emphasised that design is a journey of self-exploration and interaction with nature. Her work incorporates local craftsmanship with modern techniques to enhance resource efficiency and sustainability. Sher Maker’s approach ensures that designs are not only aesthetically captivating but also environmentally responsible.

Meanwhile, Florian Kallus and Sebastian Schneider spoke about how sustainable design has evolved, with increased demand for products that blend nature’s essence with modern living. The Antao collection is a perfect example, guided by organic shapes that evoke natural beauty and calm. Each piece is distinct yet versatile, designed to create spaces that nurture and rejuvenate. Florian and Sebastian believe nature has healing power and that incorporating it into living spaces, especially bathrooms, helps promote well-being.

The Antao collection also stands out for its innovative features that blend sustainability with luxury. The bathtub, crafted from Quaryl, not only offers durability but also conserves water by retaining heat. Another notable piece is the Antao Washbasin, shaped like a dewdrop on a leaf. It is made from the unique material TitanCeram, which enhances strength and scratch resistance while fully maintaining the intricacy of the design. Other highlights include the CeramicPlus coating, which repels dirt and limescale for easier cleaning, and the Antao Washdown Toilet, which uses TwistFlush technology to enhance water efficiency. These thoughtful innovations ensure the collection is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional.

The collection’s unique design aesthetics and attention to sustainability have earned it international recognition, including the Red Dot and iF Design Awards in 2023. Katharina Klotz, Head of Marketing APAC at Villeroy & Boch, noted that the Antao collection aligns perfectly with the brand’s vision ‘A house becomes a home’. It offers designs that not only reflect personal style but also foster a sense of comfort and well-being in everyday living.

Mrs Suthipa Svasti-Xuto concluded, ‘Sustainability has become a top priority for consumers, extending beyond water efficiency to include eco-friendly materials and reducing environmental impact. Villeroy & Boch is leading the way by integrating sustainable design principles that show how luxury and sustainability can coexist. Crystal Home is proud to bring these innovations to Thailand, offering products that meet the growing demand for environmentally responsible design without compromising on quality or design.’
