Sherwin-Williams paints Emily Henderson used in her own home
Emily Henderson’s Oregon farmhouse offers much in the way of interior design inspiration, from the unique furniture finds to her approach to decorating with color.
The interior designer has stylishly incorporated bold and uplifting hues while maintaining a sophisticated, light, and airy feel throughout her home, not least through her clever paint ideas.
In a recent blog posted to her website, Emily Henderson revealed each of the Sherwin-Williams paint shades used throughout her home, ranging from light neutrals to much bolder hues. Below, we’ve rounded up each of the colors used in various rooms, from her living room to the powder room, giving you a glimpse into this stunning family home.
1. Dew Drop SW 9641

Starting off with this light and airy mudroom, Emily opted for Sherwin-Williams’ Dew Drop SW 9641 on the ceiling beams, trim, and wall paneling, complete with Extra White SW 7006 on the walls and ceiling.
‘It is such a pretty light blue/green that is so subtle but doesn’t read as a pastel at all,’ Emily Henderson writes about Dew Drop in her blog post about her home’s paint colors. ‘It feels fresh, bright, and airy.’
However, Emily goes on to write that this light paint color works best in well-lit rooms: ‘I wouldn’t put this color in a room without a lot of natural light because it might look flat.’
2. Slate Tile SW 7624

Sherwin-Williams’ Slate Tile SW 7624 is a dark gray-toned blue paint that adds a moody feel to rooms, and Emily used it here for her pantry color scheme.
‘I love this color and would use it over and over again,’ Emily explains in her blog post. ‘It feels moody and really pulls you in, which we wanted for this intentionally darker space.’
3. Extra White SW 7006

Emily’s much-admired sunroom is a calming, light-filled space that proves white paints are sometimes the best color choice. Here, Sherwin-Williams’ Extra White SW 7006 works wonders to achieve a fresh look, with its subtle cool undertones perfectly balanced by the ample sunlight.
4. Debonair SW 9139

In the primary bedroom, Emily chose Sherwin-Williams’ Debonair SW 9139, a slightly muted blue paint. ‘Debonair SW 9139 has so much pigment that at night (or in winter) it feels like the coziest room in the house – I love it. It’s happy but moody,’ Emily writes in her blog post.
5. Still Water SW 6223

In Emily’s cozy family room, she opted for Sherwin-Williams’ Still Water SW 6223, which she describes as ‘a very very dark teal’.
However, she continues to write that this color will appear much brighter in well-lit rooms: ‘But fair warning, in a room with a lot of natural light this color will look very bold and more like a bright but dark teal. It’s moody in here because it’s dark with low light. But I wouldn’t put it in a larger bright room unless you want a really saturated and bold colorful room.’
6. Artistic Taupe SW 6030

Introducing pink paints into the mix, Sherwin-Williams Artistic Taupe SW 6030 is a calming and sophisticated hue that Emily used in this guest bedroom, complete with Extra White SW 7006 on the trim.
Artistic Taupe can read differently depending on the natural light the room receives, suggests Emily in the blog post, adding that it ‘reads more of a pink than it would in a darker room (where it might read more neutral).’
7. Cocoa Berry SW 9078

In this rustic powder room, Sherwin-Williams’ Cocoa Berry SW 9078 was used on the walls, creating a cozy feel.
‘Cocoa Berry SW 9078 is a really really warm dark mauve that feels so calming and complementary to all the blues we have in the house,’ writes Emily in the blog post.
This shows just how effective a bolder take on color is in powder rooms, adding fun and design interest to these space-limited rooms.
8. Mantra SW 9631

Lastly, Sherwin-Williams’ Mantra SW 9631 is a cool, blue-toned neutral paint that Emily used on the walls in the living room, paired with Sherwin-Williams’ Extra White SW 7006 on the ceiling and wall paneling.
Emily writes in the blog post that Mantra ‘adds such a nice tone that works with everything we have. Sometimes it looks light blue, sometimes Robin’s egg, sometimes gray.’
Emily’s home is a lesson on going bold with room color ideas while keeping things timeless and liveable. The use of rich, moodier hues feels natural in the darker and cozier zones of the home, while lighter neutrals work with the generous sunlight that fills the more social spaces.
